The Beginning

As he settled down at his desk, hot cup of coffee on a coaster to the left, eyes fixated on the blank screen in front of him and his fingers slightly hovering over the keys of his keyboard he realized;

"What have I got to say?"

"What should I write?"

He picked up his coffee, took a sip and burned his tongue. He proceeded to type a string of obscenities until the sensation of liquid hate left his palate and then deleted what he had written.  He had always thought that people who wrote for a living had it easy; all they had to do was take the who, what, when, where, why and how of a situation and put it into words on paper. Now he was realizing that there might be more to it than he had originally thought.  He picked the Hoberman sphere up from his desk and started to play with it; expanding and collapsing it, looking through the holes in its body at his screen and still nothing.

Feeling frustrated the "writer" stands from his chair and grabs the TV remote and powers it on. As he stretches his back while at the same time flipping channels he immediately turns the TV off knowing that it would be easy to get sucked into any one of a hundred sports shows or even morning cartoons. As he starts walking back to his desk he passes a bookcase filled with books by his favorite authors and wonders for a minute how they managed to write one much less ten to twenty and then the idea comes to him;

"Why not take a character that he had already been toying with and go with that instead of a fresh new idea?"

Excited he makes his way back to his desk, takes a sip of his now perfectly tempered coffee, pops the knuckles in his fingers and once again places his fingers above the keys at the ready. The lightbulb in his head went off, he stretched the fingers and as quickly as it had come on it went off. The "writer" is never at a loss for words vocally, he always has something to say, a joke to tell and sometimes a question to ask but right now in this instance he couldn't think of anything but;

"Hello World".
